What We Do
RTPC Activities
Rowlett Texas Photography Club has lots of activities, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually. We also have activities pop up irregularly, so be sure to check our Facebook page and Meetup calendar for those:

Weekly:
Weekly Theme: Each Monday morning we announce a new weekly theme, and members are encouraged to post one photo each day which matches up to that theme. At the start of each year the list of each week’s theme during that year is placed in the “Files” section on Facebook, for people who are more well organized.
Here is our current year’s weekly themes list.
Photo of the Week: At the start of every weekend, five photos with the most likes, loves, etc., during the week-before-last are selected and posted as a poll. Members are encouraged to vote for their favorite of those photos. At the end of the weekend the winner is announced. That image becomes the banner for the coming week and an announcement is posted to honor the photographer. We maintain an album for each year’s winning photos.
Monthly:
All Things Photography - Round Table Discussion: On the evening of the first Monday of each month, we meet for a couple hours and talk about photography. It is designed for open discussion about any topic regarding photography. Bring a topic. It can be your opinion about something, or a question. It can be theoretical or practical.
RTPC Monthly Daytime Photo Walk: On the second Thursday of each month, weather permitting, we get together to go on a photo walk at a location anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours from Rowlett. The start and end times will vary each month, depending on time of year and where we are going.
Street: People, Places, and Things Workshop: On the second Saturday of each month we meet at the Rowlett Dart Station and head to a local street destination to photograph people, places and things in the style of master street photographers such as Saul Leiter, Jay Maisel, Bruce Davidson, William Eggleston, etc. Materials and references will be provided on the street photographer in advance of the walks. For beginners, a shot list will be provided to assist in participating. On occasion we will bring a model with us.
4th Thursday RTPC Dinner Club: Join us on the 4th Thursday of each month for our social at Bankhead Brewery, 3840 Main St, Rowlett, Tx, 6:30 PM. This is a fun social when we get together to eat, drink and chat. Please RSVP on Meetup so we know how many tables to reserve. If the weather is nice, we sit outside. On cold days we move inside to a private room.
Low Light Friday Nights: On the evening of the fourth Friday of each month we’ll go shooting in the dark. You'll learn how to do amazing things like:
Beat your camera's internal light meter into submission
Get vivid colors at night
Stop motion (for fast things, like water drops and bullets)
Blur motion (a/k/a dragging the shutter)
Feel confident using all of those "little used buttons" that you've been dying to master
Quarterly:
Quarterly Social: This meeting on the first Saturday of March, June, and September, is about eating good food and socializing with good friends. We have a private room at one of our favorite places, Ernesto’s Mexican Restaurant, so we can enjoy our meal without all of the noise and congestion from the main area. The room seats around 50 people so lots of room to eat and chat.
Annually:
Annual Social: This is the December version of our Quarterly Social, but being the holidays, we usually have a little gift exchange ($5-$10) and a few other special activities.
52 Week Photo Challenge: This challenge starts at the beginning of each year, for people to shoot one new photo each week, and post it to the group weekly album. You must not miss more than 5 weeks in the entire year in order to stay in the challenge. The deadline to join is the second week of January. So, watch our Facebook page toward the end of each year for next-year’s challenge announcement.
Irregular:
RTPC Nature and Wildlife Walkabout: Several times a year we trek to a nature area to shoot the wildlife and landscape. Be sure to watch our Facebook page and Meetup for when these trips come up.
